Jesse likes to watch "3's Company" dubbed into Spanish on tv in the evenings to practice his listening skills. It's fun to watch, not only because John Ritter was always so physically funny, but because his name on the show was Jack. In Spanish, you know, they soften a "J" into an "h" or a "y" sound. Because of this, the characters on the show all call him "Yak". "Yak"! It gets me every time. Sigh, probably only me.
Also, all over town there are "Joyeria's". At a "Panaderia", you buy bread, at a "Cafeteria" you have coffee and at a "Farmacia", you get meds. So what's at a "Joyeria"? Everytime we passed the millions of Joyeria's, I imagined people inside, with patchouli wafting and perhaps brightly colored bean bag chairs strewn about, purchasing some Joy. I liked it. Until I realized it was pronouned "Hoyeria" and "Joya" is Jewelry and then it made sense. But I still like my way better.
Also, never say you're "embarasada" unless you're ready to be saying you're pregnant.
