So…they’d like me to lead a class teaching American food especially "Pasta". It’ll be me instructing 30 Home Ec teachers. Hilarity, I’m sure.
I was asked to create the menu as well. Here’s what I’ve decided to do:
Pesto (the old Mortar/Pestle way) with Pasta
Caprese Salad (slices of tomato and mozzarella with olive oil and balsamic)
Garlic bread (a favorite (?) of the Japanese. Even in the bakeries, they seem to mostly dress up their baguettes with various goos)
Peach Cobbler (yum! And also, cobbler is one of the few foods that is really from the US. It’s so named after cobblestones, which it resembles. That’s all true – Jamie Oliver told me so)
And that’s it. Now I need to write recipes for all these things and make sure they work. And decide whether to have the cobbler with ice cream (obviously the best tasting option) or whipped cream (cheaper, but that’s because it’s fake whipping cream) or nothing because....no, there’s no excuse for having nothing on cobbler.
This’ll be my only update this week because it’s Holiday! Celebrate! Time in Japan. First, we just had a 3-day weekend because Friday was a national holiday. Now it’s Monday and everybody’s here diligently teaching and shuffling papers. Tomorrow, Wed, and Thurs are ALL also national holidays. So I won’t be back with idley-thumb-twiddly time on my hands until Friday and then....it’s the weekend. Wahoo! So hasta la vista, babies.
