"OK! Your questions - answered!
1. How would you make candied walnuts? I have walnuts and I have a
pear and I have gorgonzola and I want to make my favorite salad but I
can't find directions anywhere.
I'll tell you how I've made them in the past, but a friend of Jesse's
gave him some over x-mas and I liked them better. Huh. OK - Use a
non-stick pan! Put about a quarter cup of brown sugar in the pan and
put it on medium heat. watch it closely. All of a sudden you will
notice it beginning to melt. As soon as it is melted, put a half cup
or a bit more walnuts in the pan and toss them about with the sugar.
Take it off the heat. try to skooch the walnuts around so all the
sugar is sticking to them somewhere. If it is just one big ball of
sugar and nuts stuck together, don't worry - that always happens to
me. Give it a good deal of time to cool (that sugar is HOT) and then
break it all apart into walnut sized pieces.
2. If you go into OMSI with a season pass, do they check ID? I have
tobabysit the brats this Sunday for ten hours, and I thought I'd take
them to OMSI again, but last time you just let us in even though we
had their pass.
This is a long answer. OK, they do check ID, but not at the
'membership window' only at the entry gate. So if you're babysitting,
they'll stamp you at the window and you're good. Here's the fine
print. The basic membership (card will say family) only lets in the
family, no guests (ie babysitters, nannys grandparents). They'd need
to have the 'family plus' or 'friend' membership to get in any adult
who's name is not on the card. BUT here's why it's not a problem.
Either they will recognize you and give you stamps and whatnot or they
won't recognize you and you can hand them the card and say you don't
have your ID, and you get in as a parent. Make any sense? Sorry if
it doesn't.
3. Did you have a hernia?
I still just really hope not, but I haven't done much on the heavy
exersize front. I slipped on some ice last week and bruised up my
knee something fierce, so I'm taking it easy. (edit: I'm a silly girl - no twinges from the abdomen in, like, 2 weeks. Something must've just been pulled.)
4. If I finally get up my nerve to go to the temp agency, what on
earth should I wear?
Ugh - probably something nice and skirty. Maybe that swingy black
skirt, a nice, solid color shirt and that black vinyl-ish old navy
jacket that was mine? Or, I think even a nice sweater (like that one
from momm for your birthday last year) and a skirt. Tights are fine
and any of your winter shoes are nice.
4. (I WAS up to number 4, wasn't I?) How would you dry out some
basil? My basil keeps going bad and a lot of my recipes say you can
use dried basil, but I don't have any.
I don't know how to dry basil at home. I can tell you how to help it
last longer in the fridge, though. When you get it home, take it out
of that plastic Trader Joes container. Find the stems of all the
plants and put them in a cup of water, bouquet style, and then put a
plastic bag over the top of it and put the whole deal in the fridge.
Yay!!! Hope I helped! I'll call you!
love, Amykatrina"
And on that note - yay! The weekend is almost here. I have a huge zit and we have no plans. Awesome!
