rare cheese cake

Today is OK. Ummmm, yeah, really. Sorry about yesterday's entry. I'm not dying or running away. Just a bit out of sorts. Yuck.

Just had some soup and a rice ball for lunch. This soup I get at school for lunch is so tasty. I'd thought I was getting "White Miso" soup, Miso Shiro. Miso = miso, Shiro = white. But it turns out it's something like "Mizo Jiru", where Mizu = pig, Jiru = soup. So I guess I really like the "pig soup" at my school. Humph - Japan really sucks to try to remain a veggie.

I got the giggles in the bathroom at school today. I've been sneaking down to the girls bathroom (rather than the teacher's bathroom) cause it has a western toilet and I noticed there's a small sign screwed into the wall opposite the toilet at eye level when sitting. The first line reads (to me, who can't read it) something like, "shoogadoowop ha(I can read the 'ha') beebopah mo(also the 'mo') shalala" - and the second line I could read the characters, they said, "shite kudasai". Kudasai means please. Ha ho! Shite is probably some verb ending from some of the unreadable stuff above it(actually, when I first came I heard "shite" everywhere, every conversation sounded littered with profanity). Oh dear, it's probably only really funny to another 'sub-lower-elementary-level' japanese language studier.

So then. Yesterday was dull as dirt. There was an English language conference at my school for all of a LARGE region of Japan and I got to see some friends but it was a useless conference for most of us. Yes, I'm being negative, but really, a 2 hour lecture in Japanese by a small, unmoving man is useless. Last night Jesse and I went out to dinner with a friend, Jaya from Australia, to our lovely Indian place and we were there gabbing for a few hours. She's a kind, slightly spiritual person and wonderful for a chat.

Tonight I've been invited (and am yanking Jesse along with me) to join an English conversation group. I was asked by a small, very old man (actually a former principal of my school - very former) who has decided to study English and is very interesting in teaching styles in the US. He and I had a wonderful (long) talk a few weeks ago and I'm actually excited to attend their group.

Well now, the vice principal (who's desk is 3 feet to my right) just gave me a proclaimed "rare cheese cake". I think I've concluded that "rare cheese" is "cream cheese", though I haven't determined whether the "rare" refers to it's being unusual or unripe. It is possible that the cheesecake itself has been declared of the "rare" type. Either way I'm going to eat it.
